Hardscape Services in NYC
At NY Horticulture Group, we believe hardscape should be as thoughtfully designed as the plants that surround it. A patio, pathway, or courtyard isn't just a surface — it's the structure your entire outdoor space is built on. Whether you're envisioning a peaceful courtyard retreat, a rooftop patio with character, or a stone walkway that ties a garden together, we design and build it with artistry, precision, and materials made to last.\
Beyond Poured Concrete
Hardscape doesn't have to mean a slab of gray. We work in materials chosen to match the character of your property:
Paving stones & brick — classic, repairable, and beautiful with age
Natural stone — bluestone, granite, and slate for patios, steps, and walls
Wood & composite decking — warmth underfoot for terraces and rooftops
Tile — clean, modern surfaces for courtyards and outdoor rooms
Loose gravel & permeable surfaces — texture, drainage, and easy maintenance
Unlike standard concrete, these carefully sourced materials resist cracking, shifting, and freeze-thaw damage — the exact stresses NYC winters put on outdoor surfaces. Every installation is built on a properly prepared base, because a hardscape is only as durable as what's underneath it.
Built for NYC Spaces
Brownstone rear gardens, commercial courtyards, rooftop terraces — city hardscapes come with city constraints: tight access, drainage requirements, weight limits, and neighbors on every side. We've built in all of them. Our crews handle everything from material staging in spaces with no street access to designs that route water away from foundations and party walls.
Protect What's Underneath: Rodent Wire Mesh
Here's something most contractors won't tell you: the soft base layers and planting edges around new hardscape are prime burrowing territory for NYC rats. Burrows undermine pavers, destabilize edges, and turn a brand-new patio into a repair project.
The best time to prevent that is during construction — while the ground is already open. We offer professionally installed rodent wire mesh: a galvanized steel exclusion barrier installed beneath base layers and along hardscape edges before the finished surface goes in. It's invisible, permanent, and costs a fraction of retrofitting it later. If you're investing in new hardscape, ask us about building the barrier in from day one.
Our Process
Design consultation. We walk your space, discuss how you'll use it, and develop a design that fits your property, taste, and budget.
Material selection. We source samples so you can see and feel options in your own light.
Site prep & installation. Proper excavation, base preparation, and drainage — plus optional rodent mesh — before a single stone is set.
Finish & detail. Edges, joints, transitions, and cleanup, done to the standard the design deserves.\
